Student Support Systems

Supporting every student to Thrive

At Clearview Christian College, we believe every student is uniquely created by God and deeply valued. We are committed to supporting each young person academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually so they can flourish throughout their high school journey.

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support

Our student support framework is called Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). It provides a clear, caring, and proactive way to ensure every student receives the right level of support at the right time.

What is MTSS?

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) is a framework used for student support at Clearview Christian College. The purpose of MTSS is to provide a proactive, tiered system of support that adapts to each student’s needs. Through MTSS, Clearview offers three levels of support – universal support (Tier 1), small group support (Tier 2) and individualised support (Tier 3). MTSS helps each student feel a sense of connectedness and belonging within our school community, which is central to their wellbeing.

Levels of Support

Tier 1 – Universal Support
  • Who: All students
  • Focus: High-quality teaching, inclusive classroom strategies, and clear expectations
  • Goal: Prevent challenges, support engagement, and build foundational skills
Tier 2 – Targeted Support
  • Who: Some students needing additional support
  • Focus: Small group instruction, skills consolidation, social-emotional support
  • Collaboration: Teachers, students, parents, support staff, and the College Chaplain
  • Goal: Ensure students keep pace with peers and build confidence
Tier 3 – Individualised Support
  • Who: A few students requiring intensive, personalised support
  • Focus: Individual support plans, frequent monitoring, and specialised strategies
  • Collaboration: Teachers, families, specialist staff, and external agencies where appropriate
  • Goal: Ensure full participation in all school activities and address unique needs

Behavioural Support & Restorative Practices

  • Tier 1: Classroom strategies guide positive behaviour
  • Tier 2: Student Services Coordinator and College Chaplain work with families to restore relationships and address repeated challenges
  • Tier 3: College Principal and support team handle serious behaviours, meeting with families to decide outcomes and restorative practices

What makes MTSS different?

Support provided through MTSS is:

  • Holistic and student-centred: The MTSS framework takes a whole-child approach, recognising that every student is unique. Each student has a dynamic Learner Profile, which is student-driven and goal-centred, supporting spiritual, academic, physical, and emotional growth in a holistic way.
  • Proactive and relational:  We provide clear, modelled expectations and guide students in developing social responsibility, resilience, trust, and courage. Strong relationships between teachers and students, ongoing consultation with families, and careful monitoring of progress help ensure every student can achieve their goals.
  • Collaborative and connected: Students, families, teachers, Chaplain, and support staff work together to plan and deliver support. When needed, external specialists are involved to provide extra guidance, ensuring each student receives the right help at the right time.

Student Support Team

At Clearview, a dedicated team works together to support students and families:

  • Student Services Coordinator – oversees student wellbeing, behaviour support, and targeted interventions
  • Inclusive Curriculum Coordinator – supports learning adjustments and inclusive classroom practices
  • Pastoral Care Teachers – provide day‑to‑day care, guidance, and connection for students
  • College Chaplain – offers pastoral support, guidance, and care for students and families

External specialists and agencies may also be involved when additional support is beneficial.
