SET Planning & Subject Selection
At our College, SET Planning is a personalised, future-focused process that supports each student as they transition into their senior phase of learning. The SET Plan provides a clear roadmap for Years 10–12, guiding students to make informed decisions about their subjects, pathways, and post-school goals.
Through dedicated conversations, career exploration, and guidance from teachers, mentors, and our Careers Advisor, students identify their strengths, interests, and aspirations. Their SET Plan outlines the learning options best suited to their pathway—whether that includes General or Applied subjects, Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications, School-Based Apprenticeships or Traineeships (SBATs), or direct entry to employment.
The SET Planning process ensures that every student:
- Selects a meaningful and achievable senior pathway
- Understands Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) requirements
- Explores career opportunities and further study options
- Builds confidence in their transition beyond school
Our goal is simple: to empower students with the clarity, direction, and support they need to thrive in their senior secondary years and beyond.
Tailored student pathways begin in Year 9, where students select up to three elective subjects from The Arts, Technologies, or unique school-based offerings. These choices allow students to start building their skills, exploring interests, and shaping potential future pathways as they progress into senior schooling.
Work Experience
At Clearview Christian College, work experience plays an important role in helping students explore future pathways and make informed decisions about life beyond school.
Work experience provides students with the opportunity to spend time in a real workplace, gaining valuable insight into different industries and careers. As part of our broader career education program, students are encouraged to explore areas of interest and begin connecting classroom learning with the world of work.
All students are offered the opportunity to participate in a work sampling placement, allowing them to test potential career interests and develop practical skills in a supportive environment. Placements are chosen in consultation with students and families and are aligned with each student’s interests and future aspirations. For some students, particularly those enrolled in Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathways, structured workplace learning may form part of their senior studies.
What parents should know
- Students must be 14 years of age or older to participate
- Work experience placements are unpaid
- Students may complete up to 30 days of work experience per calendar year
- In some circumstances, additional days may be approved for students with disability, in consultation with families
Student safety and insurance
The safety and wellbeing of our students is a priority. All work experience placements are covered by:
- Public liability insurance through the Department of Education
- Personal injury insurance through Independent Schools Queensland
Why work experience matters
Through work experience, students are supported to:
- See how classroom learning applies in real-world settings
- Understand workplace expectations and employer responsibilities
- Explore a wide range of career options
- Build confidence, independence, and maturity
- Increase motivation for further study, training, or employment
Work experience is an important step in helping students gain clarity, confidence, and direction as they prepare for their future.
Apprenticeships & Traineeships
At Clearview, students can kickstart their careers while still at school by undertaking a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT). Through this pathway, students:
- Gain valuable, hands-on industry experience
- Earn a wage while studying
- Work towards a nationally recognised qualification
- Continue progressing towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)
Typically, students spend one day per week in the workplace and attend school for the remaining days. In addition to their practical training, students must complete required training books and other tasks, and they may need to work during school holidays.
This pathway is ideal for students who enjoy learning through experience and are motivated to enter the workforce with confidence and skills.

These partnerships help open meaningful pathways for our students and connect learning with real-world opportunities.
University / Early Entry Programs
Clearview Christian College supports students who are aiming for university or further study, offering clear pathways into tertiary education alongside personalised guidance throughout the senior years.
Students intending to apply for a university course do so through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) during Year 12. Admission is based on the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank), which ranks students from 99.95 (highest) down to 0.00 in 0.05 increments.
To be eligible for an ATAR, students must complete an approved combination of senior subjects, which may include:
- Five General subjects, or
- Four General subjects plus one Applied subject, or
- Four General subjects plus a Certificate III (or higher) vocational qualification
Students must also achieve a Sound Achievement in a QCAA English subject, reflecting the fundamental importance of English as a foundation for tertiary study.
Clearview staff work closely with students to ensure subject selections align with future study goals and that all requirements are clearly understood well before Year 12.
Start University Early Programs
For motivated and high-achieving students, Clearview supports participation in early university entry programs during Years 11 and 12. These programs allow students to begin studying university-level subjects while still at school.
Benefits may include:
- A head start on university study
- Credit towards a future degree
- Contribution towards the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)
- Increased confidence and readiness for tertiary learning
Available Programs
Clearview students may be eligible to apply for the following programs:
- Enhanced Studies Program (ESP) – The University of Queensland (UQ)
- Head Start – Griffith University
- Start Uni Now (SUN) – CQUniversity
These programs are ideal for students who are academically ready, self-motivated, and clear about their future goals.
Certificate Courses - Cert I, II, III & IV
At Clearview Christian College, students can include Vocational Education and Training (VET) as part of their senior studies while working towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
Certificate II courses provide practical, entry-level skills and contribute towards the QCE. While they do not count towards the ATAR, they are well suited to students planning to enter the workforce or explore hands-on career options.
Certificate III (and higher) courses can contribute to both the QCE and ATAR, allowing students to combine vocational training with academic subjects and keep future pathways open for further study, apprenticeships, or employment after school.
By thoughtfully combining general subjects with vocational education and training, students can create a senior pathway that reflects their strengths, interests, and future goals. Clearview staff work closely with students and families to ensure each pathway is well-planned, supported, and aligned with individual aspirations.

LUI (Learner Unique Identifier)
Your 10-digit LUI is created when your school or learning provider registers you with the QCAA. It is different from your school ID and the Unique Student Identifier (USI). Clearview Christian College provides Years 10-12 students with an ID card that includes their LUI number. Make sure you keep this in a safe place. You may need to use your LUI to identify yourself for other applications and purposes.
USI (Unique Student Identifier)
A USI is your individual education number for life. It also gives you an online record of your vocational education and training (VET) undertaken in Australia. When you apply to do a traineeship or apprenticeship, or register for a TAFE or university course, you must have a USI.
